I’m very pleased to announce that my short story about rogue librarians and black fungus won second prize in the 2019 Newcastle Short Story Award earlier this month.
My prize, which was sponsored by the City of Newcastle, was presented to me by Councillor (and top human being) Carol Duncan (as pictured above).
[Fun fact: Carol gave me my first media interview on ABC Newcastle when I won the 2010 Bloggie for Best Australian/NZ weblog. It should be noted that this interview went remarkably better than my second media interview where I was running a fever and thought all my words were coated in red velvet.]
I would like to thank the Hunter Writers Centre for running these awards, publishing their annual anthology and supporting writers in the Hunter Valley and beyond. I’d also like to thank judge Annabel Smith for sharing insights into the judging process and her own writing (see: https://hunterwriterscentre.org/2019/04/08/2019-newcastle-short-story-award/)
